What to avoid

Tribu sandals can last for decades but only if treated right. Here are some things to avoid for maximum footwear longevity.

1. Soaking in salt water — Salts speed up hydrolysis causing the break down of adhesive over time. Wash with fresh water after exposure.

2. Leaving out in intense midday sun — Prolonged UV exposure and high thermal stress can cause materials to fade, corrode or warp at different rates.

3. Standing too close to fire (yes, of course) — Extreme heat can soften, melt, or burn materials, permanently changing their strength and shape.

Cleaning your sandals

Well-loved sandals can accumulate dirt and debris. Below are tips for cleaning your favorite pair.

1. Wash your sandals with a load of laundry on a gentle cycle using mild detergent or baking soda with cold water.

2. Air dry.

*Do not use bleach or use other corrosive chemical cleaners.

**Do not wash your sandals in the dish washer.

***Do not place sandals in the dryer or near a heat source.

Flossing your straps

Our continuous straps wrap around the foot and through the midsole for a custom fit. Over the course of wear, grit and sand can get in the channels where the straps enter and exit the midsole. To clear these channels we recommend “flossing” your straps with these steps.

1. Wet down the straps.

2. Squirt fabric softener into the slot for each strap.

3. Pull the straps back and forth through their channels to clear any excess debris.

4. Rinse with water and air dry.

De-odorizing

Many Tribu products have antimicrobial treatment for odor protection. For those that don’t (and even those that do) a good old-fashioned cleaning is needed to keep your sandals smelling fresh.

1. Give your sandals a general cleaning.

2. Scrub the footbed with baking soda and water using a firm-bristled brush.

3. Air dry.

4. If more thorough methods are required, a specialized sandal wash will do the trick.
